I had a try with the Panzer model using 3DWin (see the result below). It
does work though it requires
editing the texture list quite a bit. For the record, I do that by
pasting in
Excel the whole material file output by 3DWin and sorts it to retrieve
only the
"#declare T_" lines, sometimes with the bitmap names that have survived
the
conversion process.
After that some trial and error is needed to guess where the bitmaps are
supposed to go (unless you have Max of course). I've done this by
assigning
different colors to the textures.
A more difficult part is to get the decals right, as they are partly
transparent, and for this you'll have to create alpha channels. Other
than that
it's business as usual with uv-mapped meshes.

Looks like the scale of the textures gets all messed up. Darn. :\ Did you
convert from 3DS or DXF or what? And where did you put the textures, and so
on?

Thank you very much, Gilles!

From 3DS, since DXF doesn't recognise UV-mapping.
For the textures, a first approach gave me this, but it should be completed
(see the little blue and yellow parts remaining on the picture). The scale
problem is due to the fact that I applied textures where they didn't belong. In
fact the *_m.inc file should be decorticated texture per texture. I was less
successful with the FW189 on the site, but the San Juan boat is a beauty.

Hi Gilles and all!

Shouldn't the size of the camouflage pattern be the same all over the whole tank?

See you in Khyberspace!
