I don't know what to add to this picture.
Any suggestions?

Just about anything you can model would look great :-)

Before you add anything I think you should touch up the clouds near the
horizon... I think they should get much smaller, lighter in color, and never
touch the ground (or at least be obscured by some haze at that distance).

Yes, I know its a desert, but maybe I meant dust instead of haze :-)

Nice start.

Yeh, seems a bit cluttered ;)

The clouds, of course, are great, but I agree that you need some sense
of distance to them. The general sweep of sand is also very good, but I miss
the little ripples one thinks of in a large dessert. Perhaps they are there
and the shadows don't pick them out?

As for things to add, that depends on the story you want to tell. Camels
for a caravan, jets for a dessert assault, one lone crab to turn it into a
beach, an oasis for stereotypification, two people on a distant crest with
one struggling to keep up, a thin spattering of grass and flowers on one
edge to show that you are entering the desert...

If you're going for the desolate desert feel, then more structure to the
sand dunes would be a good start, as well as possibly some atmospheric
haze to represent wind blown sand, and if you're feeling really
masochistic, then some suggestions of deser tlife like beetles etc.

Bye for now,
     Jamie.
