'And now for something completely different' is a famous sentence from the
Monty Python-series, which theme song was 'Liberty Bell' by a guy called
Sousa (or am I wrong?)
It's a bit farfetched, I know, but that was the first thing that came to my
mind!

Ah, I knew the MP reference, and the tune, but not its name, so didn't see
the connection.

This might look cool if you kept the water and tried to light the entire
image with torches.

Well, the original was underlit, and it'd look funny through the water. But
I might try it anyway.

Nice pic ... Details are more visible, but the mood is lost ...
If you continue this pic, try to invert the normals of the water
(bump_size -1)... it'll give a slightly better effect ...

A couple things I would mention.
- In daylight this castle looks a little too clean.
- The green growth around the water line is not dark or scumy enough.
- The person needs better texturing.
... and please let the sky and clouds do justice to your work on the
castle!

I would be intrigued by some mysterious corresponding glow down under
the water (does this mean a sunset for dimmer ambient lighting to afford
appropriate contrast?).

I don't want to compete with this one, but a spiral pigment function
combined with the inside of a cone might also help. I just tried to force
the build-in function helix2 to a cone shape but the necessary gradient
and/or accuracy was far to much to give working results.

Just my 2 Pfennige,

Well, Ken's vortex works pretty well when combined with the ridged MF that
I'm using for the basic water. However, I'm having a little bit of a
problem controlling it. Which numbers to change to get certain effects is
not really clear. I'm getting the hang of it slowly, but...

The water is an iso, not a normal.

Is it ? ... wow ...
Anyway you should try to reverse the bumps ...
From the pattern itself I think its a crackle-pattern with some
turbulence, but I maybe wrong, again ...
