I'm fairly satisfied with this :)
Each torch is a column of three (for small "stick") or six (for large
"lantern") point lights with a yellowish tint. If you look closely (at
least on the PNG version) the banding is evident, but it blends pretty
well. Because of the number of lights (42) and the high aa (0.1, even
0.2 left nasty artifacts on the daylight version if you look closely) it
took a long time to render...

Peak memory 55 873 443
This is a very black-level sensitive image, so if you can't make out
details in the dimly lit areas turn off the room lights or shield your
monitor, trust me it looks a lot better!

That looks badass. My only complaint would be that the camera makes it
look a bit strange.

I hardly see how glare and black-level can be platform dependent...

Macs have a different gamma(around 1.8), so the darker areas show up as
brighter on Macs. I could see nearly every detail in even the darkest
areas on my system(though it retains the dimly-lit look).

The lighting looks nice but not very lego-like(tm)
How about a second version with bright sky, radiosity, some reflection ?
Ok, you should then leave out the 42 light sources to get it rendered within one
week ;-)

This image makes me want to construct with
Lego again !
But isn't there a tiny detail missing ?
The word "Lego" on every little "cylinder".
Nice idea to use a wide angled camera here.
This combined with the dim light spots
shows the Lego bricks(?) in a way that I
have never seen them before.
