I was going to introduce this as my first image since those obligatory
sphere plane images. Then I realized, this pic is of a sphere, on something
that looks like a plane (though it's not). Oh well.

Still, I rather like it.

Nice layout, but it doesn't look like a sphere... it's too flat. I would add
some reflectivity to the black portiono f the ball to bring out it's shape, and
make the background haze a bit brighter to emphasize the negative space the
ball creates.

Just my 0.17 cents after taxes...

I actually had a nice subtle effect going that defined the sphere better,
but JPEG Compression killed it. :-(

I think the human figure in the foreground look QUITE cool.

It's a Poser3 figure in a business suit. I just converted the obj to a pov
mesh and then used the Colefax mesh compressor to get the size down. I did
"cheat" a little, because poser figures tend not to have much character, I
used the dilate tool in PSP to make it look a bit more gaunt than usual.

Enclosed is an unmodified look at the figure.

Thanks, I didn't think it was cliche either, but I couldn't help but note
that it's not much more than a sphere on a plane. Maybe the key to good
raytracing is having well textured spheres and planes so people don't notice
as much.

On second thought some figure climbing into the hole as a means of escape
would better reflect the mood of this pict...
What is the background and the fog/mist made of...?

I'm not sure what dilate does in a technical sense. But I know that when
used on a dark area, it makes the dark portion contract somewhat.
