You could develop this quite a bit, at the moment it looks
very CG and the colours of the ground and sky are a bit
too bright and fairly basic, it's got potential.

Yes. For the sky I got lazy. I'd like to do some clouds like those I
have seen posted here recently, but I don't know how yet.
I was mostly experimenting with normal maps and color maps in unison.
The pillars have only one pigment and one normal, for example.
The image does lack "life" -- needs animals, plants, aliens ... something.
I should have included WIP in the title.

Quite often people will post their code in the scene-files groups, I know
that some scenes including the clouds have been posted there fairly
recently.

Your textures will improve with time, they'll get more complex, and before
long the textures will take you much longer than the modelling as you start
to demand more of yourself in that direction. Just keep tweeking until you
come up with something that you like.

Or maybe some big chips and cracks in the columns, (I'm not looking at the
image at the moment so just thinking of possible ways to go), make the
concrete/brick part of the floor uneven etc. Plants look very good if you
get the right, and not many people do.
Good luck.
