Hello,
I've made a macro for creating feathers. Here comes an example and
more informations can be found here : http://baillp.free.fr/feather.html
Tell me what you think about it and use it if you please

The only time I tried to make a quill pen (back in 1997 I think) it
was a total failure. This one looks good with the only nit picked that
it needs heavier anti-aliasing and perhaps more jitter.

Looks good - Little nit-pick the end of real feathers are not rounded like
that
Can you split the feather up into individual bristles?
I think someone could do something poetic with this.

It needs +A0.1 +AM2 +R3 to get something good and that's very slow :(

You're maybe right for some of them. I'm going to check this ...

Yes there are only individual bristles, in this way I can control the
texture exactly how I want.

I hope ! :)
Personnaly I'm looking for more impressive examples of use, maybe an entire
wing ...

Just what I was thinking, other than that, the clumping effect is pretty good.

I did something similar to this when I was working on modelling trout
flies. I didn't do whole feathers though...just bits of feather and fur.
You will have to look quite a ways back for the posts though...

Okay, I've changed the top of my feathers and improved collision detection
among bristles. It can be seen here : http://baillp.free.fr/feather.html
Now, I'm working on a helmet with two wings made of these ...

Shouldn't the stripes follow the angle of the fibers?
