This pic has no artistic pretentions but I thought you mught be interested
by some of the statss

There are 300,000 clumps, each of 25 blades of grass made of 61 triangles =
4575,000,000 triangles

about 25,000 rocks each made of 16500 triangles = 412,500,000 triangles

nearly 5 billion triangles

peak memory usage 1Gb

parse time 3.5 hours

render time 11mins

Mick

That looks good, how did you create the rocks ?

The rendering/parsing time and memory use seems nearly the opposite of
isosurfaces, where you have nearly no memory requirements and parsing time but
extremely slow renders.

Rocks were created in amorphium, actually it's the same rock. The rocks and
grass were placed using trace and eval_pigment.

All it needs is a sky and it'd be another Mick H masterpiece.

And what machine are you running on that gives you that kind of memory?

For something with 'no artistic pretense', it is a very beautiful image. :)

If anything more were done, I might alter the sky and place an object of
focus.

As usual, I would like to see the source if it does not trouble you.

Thanks,
ian

It's very similar to the code in Kings which is posted in p.b.s.f. This was
a further experiment in using eval pigment, an attempt to place rocks and
grass in seperate areas. The grass file is a macro you'll find in p.a.u.
somewhat improved by
Tor Olav Kristensen.

I bet I could define a whole new meaning of that for you! :)
