I had no idea there was such a difference in the standard for both... I
switched to Mega when they  supported the official interface because of the
Method 2&3... I have not rendered an image in method 1 since...?

As it turns out, the problem is with the bozo pattern and not with
media.  Nathan explains why in the thread I posted to the unofficial
patches group.

The clouds use the bozo pattern which was changed in MegaPov (related to
removing plateaus from noise3d).  Using a different range for the color_map
entries will fix the problem.  See the thread titled "I dont believe I did
that" in povray.general for more information.
