I have been thinking about trying it with photons but truth be told
I don't think I want to trash my hard drive with the memory requirements
that would be needed. This scene is using 95 megs of memory as it is
and with photons would be unimaginable.

Try Linux ;)
Seriously, I've found the Linux (sorry Warp, Unix) version parses and renders
much faster with memory-hungry scenes, the advantage remains even if both Win
and Linux run way out of physical RAM with the scene. For some reason though, it
tends to be slower wih purely cpu-intensive scenes...
