A squashed sphere (like a lens)
a torus (sitting on the surface)
2 tori cut by a cylinder (at right angles to one another and wrapped around
the sphere)
a torus cut by two cubes (from 12 -3 and 6-9 o'clock)
The hard parts to CSG were the curly designs toward the back of main deck of
the ship.
(approx 9 tori, 16 boxes, 1 cylinder and 3 spheres each)
The head and the ram on the front were even worse than that.

Might have been "Spelljammer", or based on it, a game supplement for
Dungeons and Dragons. Definitely had some cool looking "space ships".
(The premise was fantasy worlds with wooden ships using magic to make
these ships spaceworthy. Ships clearly had "sea" in their history but
were modified for space travel by making them look like all sorts of
fish or flying insects.)

Thats it!
It was a book though, not a game supplement.

That would probably be the book series made based on the campaign
setting -- the Cloakmaster series. The campaign settings had some
consistancy problems, but it made for an interesting setting. Physics
tended to go out the window, though (can we say binary gravity? ;>)
Anyways, neat rendering. I've always thought that SJ stuff would make
good rendering subjects (as apparently does Static, who has done some
POV-Ray rendering of SJ ships -- see
http://www.gwr.com/~eshum/three-d/index.html) BTW, a bezier patch would
probably make for a good "billowing" sail. Keep up the good work,

Yeah, it was a game supplement first. If you want to see how the authors
viewed their ships, the game supplement came with a whole bunch of 8x10
color glossy photographs... sorry, color glossy cardstock drawings. They
were very, very cool. I keep meaning to 'age' a few with tea and put
them in frames.
The supplement is out of print, but you can still find it occasionally
at used bookstores. Just make sure the cardstock drawings are still
inside.

Thanks, I had actually just bought the box yesterday, after Jerry said it
was a game
supplement. $6.00 USD. Not a bad price for
ideas if you ask me.
There are enough things to model in this box to
keep me busy for a LONG time.
