I was going to write "AWESOME ICE PLANET VEHICLE!!!!!", but realized
many people probably have their newsreaders set to filter crap like that
out.
It uses angle-dependent reflection :) There are some artifacts on the
rocket clamps that look like coincident surfaces, I guess my only choice
is to remodel them since I can't follow my own code after a few weeks.
(*Lots* of nested CSG and often transformations are applied at the end
of a block, that's specialized LEGO pieces for ya...)
I think I will model some nice crystals and put it in a totally awesome
looking scene.
As usual, all hand coded...

wow nice model!!! You know if it weren't for the stark plane and the unnatural
brightness of the wheels I would have trouble telling this apart from a real
Lego model! Can't wait to see the scene.

Unnatural brightness? They are supposed to be white; perhaps they are too dark and
look like they were intended to be light gray.
Of course, the part that's left is the hardest -- the driver. Up till now,
everything, including the wheels, has had a definitive mathematical shape. Now I
need to make an eggshell-style helmet with a visor slot and the goggles for the
minifig. I'll report back in 3 years...

Actually awesome, yes ! Everything looks just right (especially
colors and textures). May I suggest :
 - use a black fog to eliminate that horizon line
 - use a spotlight to focus on the vehicle
 - uses Gille's radiosity setup, might be great !

Fabien.

Great image, it'll be good to see this with a suitable
background.

Thanks! I've already written a basic crystaline cluster generating macro.

Tanx! Of course, after so many renders of LEGO objects, the textures
have been repeatedly tweaked.

I'll wait till I have it in some different surroundings to see what else
it needs.

Very good modelling.
Please give a better background ( wallpaper ?) and floor (tiles or wood?) to
this picture. It really deserves it.

Fabien

You might want to take a look at Anton Raves' Lego include files at
http://people.a2000.nl/araves/Howto.html . He's got most of these parts
modeled.

Now now, that would be cheating! I like the challenge of doing it myself.
