Sorry, but I don't know how to invoke a port 8888 at that address.  All I saw were web
traffic
graphs.

What am I meant to do when I get there - all I get is a username and pword

It's a MOO (Multi User Dungeon Object Oriented). Looks like a
nice one. You can get help by typing 'help' after connecting.
When I looked, there were about 15 ppl in the game.
Wish I had more time for that :((

It's not a web address.  It's a telnet URL.

If you're using Windows 9x, choose Start->Run, and then type telnet into 
the box.  If it doesn't start a telnet window, then you didn't install 
telnet, so you need to do so.

Personally, I've wasted far too much of my life on telnet, primarily 
through MUD's <grin>
