Hi all,
I'm having difficulties figuring this one out.
I'm trying to difference out some text from a stone block, and as you can
see by the included picture, a portion of the first letter is missing. I'vee
tried to adjust the position of the word, the block etc. and it still does
this. Any ideas?
Also, I'll be posted further pictures of my version of a colosium soon.
  Thanks in advance.
   Kane

have you rotated one or the other a little? are you sure your text on
the left is only partway in the stone? if you put the text flush with
the stone, it may not cut out due to incident surfaces. have you tried
a merge just to see if the whole text shows up regardless of
difference? get back to us on these points.

Maybe something faulty about the font? How about also trying to put all "V"s
across there instead to see if they all do this or if only the first one does.

I've noticed that, starting with POV 3.1, POV is much pickier about
fonts in differences. You don't mention what font you're using, but you
might try one of the ones that come with POV (unless you *are*, in which
case this diagnosis is wrong).

I've noticed the trouble most with Bahamas, which unfortunately is the
font I'd long since chosen as my 'signature' font (that is, it is the
font that I use most for letterhead, web images, and so forth).

As I recall, Courier also has minor problems, but I could be remembering
that one wrong.

The problem only occurs with differences, as near as I have been able to
determine, and I have not been able to find a solution.

Have you tried making it as a union instead of a difference, just to see
what that would look like?

Jerry

Grasping at a straw... Have you tried including a blank
space immediately before the "V" in your text string?

I believe its working now, thanks. I translated the text out just a lettle
further and it fixed it, incidental surfaces I guess. It just confused me
there cause it only did it to the first letter.
   Thans for your help.

I had the same problem, and the solution that worked for me was to increase the
depth of the letters, then translate them out from the surface. Watch out that
you don't make the letters go the whole way through, unless that's what you
want.
