This year's award goes to Ian Burgmyer, the unlucky individual who had the
chance of living this unbelievable experience:

On 15/5/2000 around 1:25AM this happened to our friend, in his own words:
"I walked across the room to get something, then I tripped over the power
cable for my computer. I turned, wondering why it turned off, and sliced my
arm on an exposed nail. Then, I walked forward again, tripping over my CD
case, taking off three of my toenails. By then, my parents were both awake
wondering why I was collapsed in my closet."

On the following day (16/5/2000), around 11:42PM, while chatting with Ian, I
received this message:
"ow AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH [censored] I JUST CUT MY ARM AGAIN!!!!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!"

Which lead to the following explanation on 19/5/2000:
"What happened was that I scraped my arm against a loose wood piece and
ripped the scab right open (left a mess, too)"

And to an additional story:
"We were cut off yesterday because a generator out front got struck by
lightning!"

So, ladies and gentlemen, I am sure none of you can argue that at least
during this last week, no one here has been unluckier than our very own Ian
Burgmyer, Unluckiest Man On Earth 2000!!!

His award features a bloody nail, a power cord, and a CD case, bearing the
cover of a Vanhalen CD, which I feel, at least partly represents the pain
our friend felt.

Ian had the following to say, when he received his award (19/5/2000):
"I gratefully accept this wonderful award from the one and only TonyB! I'd
like to say that I feel very proud of being the first recipient of this
pretigious award. I appreciate the time he spent for me, on this wonderful
aw-AAHHHHHH!!! *trips on computer cord*..."

At that moment, I lost the connection, so I guess Ian had nothing else to
say. A man of few words. A humble, clumsy man. Worthy of the distinction he
received.

I see you got the power cord in like I suggested. Good work!

Hey Tony, could you add a bit of smoke to the award for me? ;)

I was over at a friend's house and we were trying to record a prank
phone call, but he doesn't have any real equipment so he cut open an old
phone cord and hotwired it to a stereo jack. Then his DSL stopped
working...

Hahaha! Did the connection work as expected (I mean the phone to stereo
one)?

Oh, BTW, I just bought myself a nice new 56K modem (w00p). Man, I never
realized how slow things can be on a cheap 28.8. (however, the more
expensive ones, like the one on my old 486, are very nice and can get you
some pretty damn good download rates).

Yup, power and voice hotwired onto a stereo cable going into his sound card, the
other channel was unused. The signal was maybe a little strong, and there should
be a lot more gain for the other end, but it's understandable.
