I just had to try this.

This time I'll just ask for comments.

(Big file size because JPEG really destroys images like this.)

So JPEG is definitely what knot to do...

(Sorry, I don't know what came over me)

It amazing how a simple idea can make such a lovely image.

No, the knot was almost destroyed!

I wonder if I can post PNG images to this group?
(Is there a policy regarding what file format to use?)

Thank you.

I like to fiddle around with simple shapes to find out how
they fit together.

But I'm afraid that many of you are beyond that stage,
and that you have all seen these shapes made by other
POV-ers in the "early days".

Generally you should use JPEG, since it is supported by more newsreaders
and the download time is shorter(and they take less room on the server).
If the PNG is small and fine detail needs to be preserved(like in some
recent logo images), PNG's are also acceptable. If you have a large
image that can't take JPEG compression, it is usually suggested to
upload it to a web page and post a message with a link to the
full-quality version and maybe a preview image.

Sometimes people post GIF files too, they aren't very common though.

I converted this image earlier to png just to see for myself if you could
have done that and been better off. Nope. It was about 3 times the file size.
When in doubt go with least compression/most quality jpeg for this newsgroup.
A png file at last resort would still be good if in the 250KB range (by popular
opinion).
That's assuming you are looking to get across a perfected image "for show",
anything else ought to be uploaded as Chris has already said since that
implies it's ready for the masses anyway.
