This is for all of you who lose yours during the day....

This was just to try my macro which i thought of in the shower, how to
stack marbels in a
trigonal pyramidyl fashion. Uses a bit of trigonometry and vector
math.... the pigments and
the transparencies are entirely random. Does anybody see the one flaw in
this image?? It is subtle,
and accidental, but adds an element of fun to it..... (well, actually
there are two....)

Looks like the clear marbles (particularly the top one) are using the default
ior and not distorting the marbles behind them.

Maybe, anyway.

Meaning no refraction. I like the parts where it's not real bright, very realistic.

Very cool! I remember making something like this myself, although my brain
wouldnt go any further when I tried to generalize the concept... (makeing
different kinds of stacks.. gravity et.c.)

I cannot see the flaws you are talking about. ..

Hmm, maybe...do the textures add up to color values >1? It looks like
things get brighter where there are many marbles in front of each other.

Actually, it has to do with the phong reflections.... I used a bump map
to generate the color gradients,
, Looking at the profile of the stack, the spheres are all spherical,
yet the reflection contradict it.
It is subtle, but I think it looks pretty cool. I have to tweak this to
make the color more believable,
and even out the transparencies.

Flaw #1: You'll never get marbles to stack like that on a glass surface like
the one you have there.

Flaw #2: You aren't using photon mapping.

the things my computer would do if photons were used on this :)
