OK now this isn't the most exciting model I've tried to re create but it was
right in front of me and it wasn't too complicated, but it was fun doing
(though it could look rather sad). It took just over an hour to render and
I played around with radiosity a bit, I'm very inexperienced with it, I just
turn it on in Moray, and for that first time I actually changed a few
settings after reading the POV help flies. Anyway because of the way I way
over did this image infact the tooth pick box is in real life a few cm's big
not a few metres as the camera looks and its actually made out of cheap
plastic not posh metal like it looks, he. Anyway comments are welcome, any
ideas on how to improve the textures or create a proper set of tooth-picks
within the box?

Oh... "metal texture"? I thought you had created a superb Styrofoam texture.
You might want to set it aside for that instead, looks almost perfect for that
if it had a slight 'crand' to it maybe. I even thought I was looking at a
Chinese food container with chopsticks in it.
Btw, the typical toothpick I know of is cylindrical with tapered ends. Anyway,
the wood looks greenish to me, don't know if it's a monitor thing again or not.

Perhaps with some kind of bubbly-looking texture overlapping it to make the "beads"
in the styrofoam. No CFCs I hope! :-P

No no, Bob, the wood looks fine to me: that must be your monitor again...
And yes: the box looks like it's been made of soft plastic. Good model,
IMHO.

As a dentist I can say that the box is beautiful, but the toothpicks are a
bit flat. The diameter of a toothpick should be triangular, and they should
be pointed, but with a rounded tip. The surface should be a little bit
rough.
I made a rough sketch, attached.

Perhaps as a Dentist you can explain why we are told not to use a sharp
metallic object to pick our teeth, but when we go to you that is the first
thing you stick in our mouths...
Horrible, sharp, hooked, pointy metal things...

This might lead to some gamma color correcting then. Oh no! I just had a
terrible thought. It's said that men have a high rate of color blindness. Not
a good thing when this raytracing stuff is your main interest. Been a while
since I've gone to the optometrist, I better ask about that when going for my
next pair of glasses.
Oh wait. Maybe you have the color blindness instead? No one else has disproved
or confirmed anything about the green tinted wood color.
Whew! Oops, I didn't mean it like that. heh-heh-heh

That's because all dentists are sadists. They just want to do it
themselves.. ;-)
