Here is my blob ship (note, I started long before Jay Rayney posted his Aqua
Pod, so he wasn't my inspiration, it was H.E. Day himself who inspired me,
just like in Jay's case).
My ship is called the: Independant Reconnaissance and Investigation Drone,
with Intelligence Abilities, or IRIDIA. I am open to better naming
suggestions (using the acronym IRIDIA). I don't like the ending I've come up
with too much.
Anyway, this little drone has cost me several nights from (11PM-2:AM) and
all the free moments during the day after that. I just finished it this
afternoon. It is "dirty" from travelling through space, and can have an
optional force-field (which would keep it clean from space debris, but waste
too much power). It propells itself with the thrusters you can see as
yellow-orange bands. There are thrusters on the back and front of the rear
ring, and on the sides and underside. I think this provides all necessary
movement. It is unmanned, and serves for exploration of unknown environments
on newly discovered planets and satellites. The windows are for two cameras
that show the operators the world they are exploring. I might add another
camera to the front, but have not decided yet (it would probably subtract
some coolness).

I like it. I'd like to see a larger image.

Could double as a DeWalt router maybe. Sorry, I couldn't help thinking that
with a set of tools sitting right next to me.
The yellow oval at the near end seems to make it lose symmetry.

You mean the thing on the tip? That's a light.

I thought it might have been the far side propulsion bar just like the one
closest to the camera. A case of mistaken perception I would say. It looked to
me like that part of the ship was the same as the nearest part to the camera,
hence I was looking for a symmetry.

Very cool,
H.E. Day's influence has been fruitful. I really like this. Actually I intended
my previous post to be a space ship, but ended up looking submarine-ish and
became an Aqua Pod. I'm particularly intrigued by good sci-fi models such as
this. Your texture maps are very effective. Looks great. Good name too.

I like the ring propeller shape in the back... How did you do it...?
I also started in on the blobing madness... My piece is starting to look like a
mars rover but since i only have the chaise who knows...?
I like the lettering in the corner for IRIDIA...
How do you pronounce that... Is it like Orida fries...?
The TonyB-2000 sounds like a cheesy r&b group like Back Street Boys or
N-Sync...
As for a good name to the acronym ...??...
How about IRIDIUM instead...( metallic chemical )

>I like the ring propeller shape in the back... How did you do it...?
I put some spheres in a #while loop, making them rotate A degrees each time,
and varying their radius depending on the height, bigger at 0 and smaller in
either y direction. I say several spheres, because first you have the main
shape, and then the grooves that you need to make. The groves would be made
with negative strengths on smaller spheres, of course.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll come up with something good.

Beatbox.

Uh-oh. BTW, did you notice the font? I've never seen to movies or series, so
I don't know if it's the actual thing, but it's called Borg9. (They use red,
right?)

I didn't want a good acronym, I wanted better meaning for the letters that
compose it. Besides, IRIDIUM has been used before (remember the satellite
"cell" phones that were like $5 a minute, but you could call all over the
Globe, and they went bankrupt?).

Mine almost became a gun. I friend of mine actually said it looked like a
flashlight. >:(

I've been working on improving the dirtyness of it. I'm thinking of using
image_maps, because it's hard to get the desired look with just bozo.

The back ring seems oddly out of place, it's a large abuttment on an otherwise
streamlined shape. The texturing is excellent.
