This was to be the backdrop to an ITC entry...But I have a feeling I'm going
to run into a memory block before it's done.
152655 frame level objects, parse time 25 mins, render time 55mins. peak
memory 196Mbytes! can that be right?

that is a way cool image, my only problem with it is the straightness of the
purple plants. maybe have some that are even broken.
i dig the fog :) nice work!

Memory requirements seem about right to me. I don't know why Mick but
it seems to me that you have finaly figured out a way to make a 2D
image with a 3D program. It seems awfully flat for some reason. Maybe
it's just me...

I agree, try taking some ambient light away, move the light source to an
angle with the camera and you should be in business. I *really* like the
grass (or weed). How did you model it?
really good fog, but try to put a creek in that spot (just a sugestion)
I also do agree that the purple plants are too straight.
this is all constructive criticism, dont be offended.

Now this does look like The Lord Of The Rings.
Forget the IRTC, just work on this and post an
800x600 when done (or am I just being selfish).

I like the flat look. Somehow it seems appropriated for this kind of scene, it
makes the scene seem more realistic in my opinion. Without the fog and cloudy
ambiance, maybe sharp lighting would be better...

This is a great image, but I think it's the sky that makes it look flat. If I
don't look at the sky it has great depth to it.
And how did you get that grass? I suddenly feel the urge to stop work on my IRTC
entry and add more features to my grasspatch.inc file.

Any Picture of fog or mist will have some flatness to it, colour gets
flattened, distance is hidden by the mist. I've tried to modify the texture
of the trees to add some depth and added a highlight on the left. I had the
strange problem of light shining through the HF! which made adding a
highlight difficult.
Besides I haven't added the spectacular(I hope) light effects yet!
The grass is my grass file on my web site but the grass is very long. I've
also tried to use the normals at each point of the HF(Leveller) to angle the
grass to the slope with mixed success. The points aren't on the faces of the
HF but on the vertices with the result that when there is a big change in
direction the angling doesn't work correctly.
The lupines are going to be hell to modify, the file is 50,000 lines long!
