Inspired by Peter Warrens Hair-piece I thought I knew a nice alternative
way to do hair. I wanted to cook up a simple demonstration but it turned
into some sort of bushlad.
These are just semi-transparent radial pigments on toruses. It works,
but it is not very flexible and, depending on the 'depth', takes quite
some time to render. The advantage is that you can easily do curly hair
and probably some other stuff. I think if you used isosurfaces for this
it could be a terrific solution.

Geinig kereltje,
for a moment I thought you used a pigment based isosurface for the hair.

I think it's great that one image can inspire another one that
is so different. I must confess that it is a bit ironic for me to
talk about hair because as the old Irish expression goes:
"There is nothing between me and heaven."
I.e., I'm bald(ing).

This seem to be a hair-problem. I remember when
I was working with Blob Man and added some hair
the render times just shot up.
This looks like it has some really good possibilities.
I'm impressed with the hair shadows.
As I said before, your great at caricatures.
BTW, nice unit.

Wie, ik? ;)

I considered using an isosurface based pigment but I never got beyond a
simple radial with a tiny bit of disturbance and a high frequency. These
two make it easy to change his hair. I'll try out a high disturbance
soon, see if I can get a good Afro-look.
