My first in two ways:
- my first attempt at modeling something organic
- my first attempt at modeling something in Moray
It turned out to be a butterfly - built from 2 planar Bezier patches
that then was copied and mirrored(wings), and one cylindrical Bezier
patch (body).
Now all that's missing is some palm trees, some lianas, some stones, and
to animate the whole thing.... :)

It looks like a very good model, I would give the wings some very slight
transparency to increase realism.

A little iridescence wouldn't hurt either...

I can't figure out the texture. Crackle?
I could really get carried away with Butterfly wing.
Like that recent entry at IRTC of the alien fractal bugs.

Nope, it's an image of the real butterfly that is mapped, once onto the
left wing and once onto the right. I used the image as a backdrop when
modeling the butterfly as well - which made it much easier to capture
the shape of the wings.
