I originally intended this to be an object in my IRTC Gardens image,
along with the sowbug. Unfortunately, it looks like this image will
never be, since these critters are all I have actually accomplished, and
I have a case of povers block.

Modelled in Rhino, textured and rendered with Moray. All textures are
procedural.

I really am proud of this. Ah well... maybe it will be useable in a
future scene.

Simon

Having lived in the moist area of the USA known collectively as Western
Washington and encountering the great migrations of these creatures on
roadways (while out walking) during some season of the year when they seemed
to think it was time to get run over by vehicles a lot (and stepped on too)
I feel I can say with much assurance that this slug is almost too good.
Yuck! Get the salt!!
How much reflection you using? If anything the pure black surroundings
might not be the best of colors, and seems it is a little on the dry side
too, just not easy to tell here. I've got to say something negative anyway
don't I? Slug afterall... ewww....
Truly a great thing, render-wise.

No reflection at all, actually.. I found that in pics of slugs in the
environment that whily they look shiny, they don't seem to reflect the
environment at all. Reflection made it look weird, so I stuck with phong and
specular.

I thought so myself. When it was done, I thought "Woah! Did I do that?" It
seemed more a fluke than anything else.. not at all my usual quality.

Oh, by the way, this could easily be done with blobs... And then be animated!

Living in the great northwest, I see lots of these moving along. These are a
realistic, but they seema bit dark for the banana slugs I'm used to. That
also might be because of the background. I hope you finish the scene, even if
you don't make it in time for the IRTC deadline.
