I love the SuperPatch! :)

Radiosity again. The sky is a temporary sphere meant to provide something to
reflect. Angle dependant reflections have been defined for nearly every
object.

Hmm... The water still needs some work.. ti just doesn't "feel" right for me.
Another item that may need to be looked into is the edge between water and land.
it strikes me as.... odd...

but I must say that this image has a good feel to iit... I'm lookinggg forward
to the evolvings..

I was expecting to see more there than the plane alone. You mean to say
you used reflection on the land and sky as well???
Well anyhow, I was going to ask about this before but figured it would
have been for nothing, but now I have to. The bright rod-like object
jutting out from the nose of the plane behind the propellor, what the heck
is that? It was dark before and I figured it for a machine gun. Don't
recall seeing it in the view from the opposite side.
Well, looking like it needs a dogfight partner in any case, I understand
this is just part of a bigger plan though.

Must be over England - looks like rain :)

Nice picture! However, the overall brightness of the picture seems
un-natural. There's something about the lighting that just looks wrong (not
badly, just a nagging, subtle inconsistency with a real outdoor landscape).
Could be the overall uniformity coupled with the fact that the top and
bottom of the plane seen equally illuminated or the illumination on the
plane is too uniform.

Hard to explain (obviously).

Not the sky. I wouldn't know how to do that (sky_sphere?). Yes, the ground
has a very, very small reflection at something close to perpendicular angles
(I think that's it).

[See attached]

The exhaust stack is what I believe you are looking at. Twelve cylinder
Rolls Royce Merlin engines were used in these things. The machine guns are
in the wing on the D-model. The early prototype, the Mustang, and the P51
(no bloody A, B, C, D, K, or H) had two .50 calibre's in the chin.
Synchronyzing them to fire through the airscrew (propeller) diminished their
fire power a little.

Dogfight? Naw, this image depicts an "Attack" mission gone bad. Christmas
day, 1944 to be exact. That's a hint, for any historians or aviation buffs.

Yes, I'm using the SuperPatch's ability to use pattern types directly into a
height field. This will make it a little easier to make things like bridges
over water, etc. At least, I think it will. I found where I wasn't using the
reflection method for the water, so it's a good thing I'm trying this one
step at a time.

There appears to be a way to lay railroad track directly upon the terrain.
I'm looking into that too. Another point of interest will be columns of
water splashing forth from rockets impacting off target. Maybe Colefax's
spray include will help with that. I don't really know yet.

Still, none of this gives away the real surprise I'm working on. :)

I think the problem is that the landscape and water are to uniformly light. The
lighting of the water and landscape is dull and uniform which nicely matches the
dark sky however the plane seems almost to be in sunlight.

NOTE!

I forgot a disclaimer on the previous post.

Ahem.

The previous post was a photo. NOT a rendered image. :)

Thank you.

I'm glad I saw this, I was about to believe it to be a rendered plane
using a image_map backdrop. Except the paint job wasn't anything you had
revealed before, I really was going to suppose it to be either photo or
render and leave it at that. Tells something about this stuff doesn't
it...?
