This is the nature of the beast it seems. Any time you step away from
simplistic scenes and try to approach realism (or even into technically
complex surrealism) your render times will skyrocket.
I don't think there is a real solution to this, unless it's the Bigger,
Faster, More approach to your processing engine(s).
Hey - even 'A Bugs' Life' took a thousand Silicon Graphics Workstations in a
network chugging away for months :)

How many recursion levels did you use? Did you exceed the 6 mark
and go to 7 ? I did a tree that took 9hrs. at a small render size
because
I made the mistake of going to 7, which Gilles warns against in the
extree.pov
files.

Aargh, this is MY fault. I forgot to translate the leaf properly when it comes
to write the file. It's fixed now (download from
