I started off intrigued, then obsessed and now I'm pretty satisfied.
With the exception of some asthetic detailing for the handle I think
this is as good as I'll ever get it to be. The blade is a result of a
cone and sphere CSG and two seperate emitting medias. The render time @
640x480 AA 0.3 targa was 4m18sec. Doing this was a lot of fun, thanks
for the challenge A. Bennet!

Wow! This is the best light sabre done with media I've seen here yet!
Is the source available?

Beautiful.
Suggestion for the handle. Medieval.
The blade is perfect.

Thanks for the feedback! As for the source, sure I'll post it in .scene-files;
just give me a chance to clean it up so that it's legible. I like the idea of
the medieval handle and hilt or maybe even a more elaborate French/Spanish
rapier. Any other ideas? - this could turn into a fun macro project...

Here is my idea of a spanish rapier (I don't know anything about swords but
I saw some movies !)Don't you think that Gold & Pearl would look a little
bit queer (don't misunderstand !)

Most of the basket-hilt rapiers that I've seen have a solid, or mostly
solid dome. That mesh wouldn't deflect a sword thrust very well.

Man, this one looks good! I wonder if mine will be so good, but I'm afraid
not. Anyway, I'm leaving for about a week tomorrow, so my version of the
lightsaber, which look exactly (I hope) like Luke Skywalkers lightsabre in
ROTJ, won't be completed soon. I can allready show you some parts of it.
As you can see it isn't yet finished at all, there even isn't a blade yet!

Most of the movies I've seen were old hollywood movies about good looking
pirates defeating the villain and kissing the girl at the end (I am and was
kiddin)!

I really like the handle, the balance center appears to be set just above
"grip" which is where it would need to be. I didn't allow for that in my design
- will fix that - considering that even though the blade is solid light, it
will still be weightless. This means that the center of balance, or the center
of gravity would have to be somewhere between the handle and the lens area, not
between hilt and mid-blade. I can't wait to see the final pic.
