what with all the sword posts i figgered i'd throw together a handle for a
current project i'm working on. lots and lots o work need to be done detail
wise, this handle is just a few primitives thrown together. . .the blade i
need to work on texture and getting the temper line somehow. . .

Beautiful blade, can't wait to see where you go from here. If I can offer an
observation: The blade needs a bit of an upward sloping curve - katana blades
aren't straight.

Nice. Blade is a little too long for the hilt length (or at least it
looks too long.) Hilt is nice.
The guard on a katana is usually highly decorated and non-reflective

This particular blade has a curvature of .43 POV units. It's just hard to
see cause I scaled it a bit because the blade is a sPatch object and I made
the handle before checking my blade dimensions.

Very good. I know japanese weapons, and that one is quite accurate. Decorate the
handle more, that's all I can say. Oh, yeah, the edge of the cutting side has a
sine wave kinda thing that is just a slightly different shade of shiny and
whiter. If you can get that in, it will be perfect. For a final scene you could
put the katana and a kodachi on a display rack.
PS: (So you know.) Kodachi, short. Katana, medium.

That is the temper line. A katana is traditionally made with a very hard
steel spine, slightly softer middle, and again slightly softer outer metal
as you go from the blade to the blunt edge. This is so the blade itself is
hard and stays sharp, but the softer steel helps it to sustain impacts, and
impacts from the side; shock absorption so it does not shatter. The temper
line will be difficult; and in order to do the handle, hilt, and butt-cap
correctly and artistically with some ornateness will be quite a task. But
we shall see how things go.

Quite possible, it was just the first impression I got, and I don't know
anything about swords.
