The Space Needle image is coming along nicely. However, your "gamma
adjustment" idea doesn't really work. All of the sample colors you
show are at corners of the color cube. They consist of ones and
zeroes only. This means that gamma correction will *not* affect them
at all. If you want to include such samples, use, say 50% red, gray etc.
I would suggest, however, that you simply report the display_gamma that
you rendered to (not the assumed_gamma) in the text. This way you do not
mar your image and viewers with gamma adjustment ability can directly make
the needed adjustment. Apologies if the format of this post is bad. This
is my first post with a new news client and I am still ironing out the
 config.

Post looks fine from here, I had to move over to another reader because NS
Communicator was not allowing me to retrieve earlier posts no matter what I
tried.
Well, about the "gamma" graphic. Bad choice of words I guess. Not really
intending that to be for anything but a display comparison in the sense that
if you see those primary colors as other than full intensity (black as really
black too), or overly intense, then it would suggest your monitor has
brightness/contrast settings wrong for the picture.
I know, its probably not a practical method, but its easy to see that if the
white appears light gray or black is dark gray you are not seeing the same
thing I saw when I uploaded.
You may be right about the messing up a picture with such a garrish graphic
but then again I've seen plenty of images adorned with anything and everything
before so maybe no one will get shocked by it.
I might not do anything like this unless there's a particular reason due to a
definate light/dark look needed in order to see the most correct way.
Guess the PNGs are well suited to "gamma correction" as is. Too bad they don't
always make feasible files for posting here.
