I have a feeling it is your choice of green right outside the window that is
tossing people for a loop. The life preservers are typicaly white with some
red striping so as modelled thay are an unfamiliar looking object as well.
I recognized the windows for what the are immediatly if that helps. :)

Actually, I thought it was some sort of water-bound garden pavillion. :

I like the texturing, and the realistic-yet-imaginary mood. The water in the
background looks nice, too. I would have liked to see a larger version,
though.

I've rendered it at 800*600 and it is now posted on my website. It is at:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/dclinton/pov/gallery/quartz.htm
There are still a few things that I'd like to fix, but they are very minor and would
not be worth going through the six-hour render again. Also, and I hate to say this,
but the larger version of the image does not look nearly as complicated as the smaller
one I posted here. I've noticed that this happens before, but it's hard to visualize
what the larger render will look like from looking at the smaller ones.
Thanks for the comments,

The life preservers were modelled after some that I breifly saw at a local sailing
club
a few months ago. I'm not often around boats so I could be wrong in this respect.
I've
left them red in the final version mostly because I'm lazy... and also because they
make
the image look even more like some experience from childhood.
The bright green at the bottom near the wood is supposed to be on top of the window -
much like canvas. It is to cover up the glass which is under water. Mind you this is
just my idea :)
Thanks for the comments,

Thanks :)
I take that as a compliment. It is not the first time I've been told my images look
like myst/riven.
