Ok, here's my attempt to make a more organic looking CGI dragon - based
on my cartoon species of dragons. Obviously this is just getting
started, but I figured I'd post and see if anyone could give me some
suggestion on how to model the arms so they're posable without looking
like they're glued on...

If you want to stick with pov primitives then blobs are probably the
most likely choice. They give you the advantage of being self sealing
on the outside but it does take a while to learn to control them.
There are no inexpensive blob modelers around that offer the features
needed to help much either. The only other option would be of course a
program that can manipulate meshes with elastic movement. These tend
to be rather expensive. I just recalled a program that you might take
a look at called elasticity. It might get you going in the right
direction. Price is right too - free.

Oh yeah, i think i have that on my hard drive somewhere. thanks.
now i need to still model the darn wings. why the heck did i create a
species with wings?

I have a fairly decent set of dragon wings in mesh format if you want em.
I'll have to extract the code but it should prove no big task. They have
quite a bit of detail but it would depend on the angle of the wings when
positioned on the back that may or may not suit your needs. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer but it wouldn't seem right to not model 'em
myself. Besides, I'm fairly useless without a modeller. I can't for
the life of me grasp 3d geometry without a visual tool. I'm pathetic
that way.
this weekend looks to be a fun round o f "Reinstall Windows and pray it
fixes the problems" anyways. i hate computeres.

If you could make them kind of puffy you'd have a real neat inflatable
dragon there. Other was a mechanized, metal one so this is quite
different. How about a wooden one, glass one, etc.?
