BTW, I *am* trying to figure out a way to fix this...the main problem is
that I can't simply check for an object between the glow and the camera,
I will also have to handle transparent and semitransparent objects.

The blocker inc handles this. All you need to do is build a model.
Declare it, remove any objects you don't want to block the glow and plug it
into the inc. Add the other objects later. Tada.

I don't see how it is possible with the information available to scene
files...even with eval_pigment(). How does it handle layered textures?
