My case is resolution problem. I could see your work but in form of slideshow
rather than nice anim. But the way you posted is wrong in general, because of:
  1. non-standard resolution
  2. commercial not standarized codec
  3. platform limited container format
I would suggest MPG next time. MPG is well (often hardware) supported, widely
used, suggested in this group, ISO codec/format
http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/starting-points.html#mpeg

Is there a faq available for the POV groups?

> 1. non-standard resolution
CSD definitely has to be a square format...
So I should have chosen 120, 240, 480 and so on?

> 2. commercial not standarized codec
The (co)dec is free and commonly used. More and more standalone
players also support this format.
I decided to use it because IMO DivX gives the best video quality if
compared to other encoding methods (still waiting for theora)

> 3. platform limited container format
There are Mac and Linux versions available...

In general it's OK for me to make mpegs when it is commonly used here
and other formats make problems.
I just didn't know...

There is whole group about it.

You mean square area with animated image. Wide screens on 4:3 has black margin
above and below animated areas. Good encoder saves black areas without
increasing file size much.

I browse web and this server from company. I use company machine, company net
and company time for it. I create animations for company. Can I use DivX in
company according to http://www.divx.com/divx/licensing/ ?

> More and more standalone players ...

Players support codecs installed on machines in standard way. And as it stated
in this thread Windowses by default does not support DivX. I recently upgraded
my home machine to XP and P4 and I _really_ wonder if I should install DivX
there. I want to create stable installation for next few years (I had previous
P2 on stable Win95 for six years) without presure to install every new release
of codecs.

Yeah, and they come after ten years for payments like SUN did.

I was reffering to ".AVI".

Great! Thanks in advance.

-------- quotation from FAQ ------------------
Animations can be of various popular file formats such as Windows .avi,
.fli, MPEG, or Apple QuickTime, but one should consider that some
animation formats may not be viewable on all platforms and therefore may
not reach as wide of an audience. Again, using an available compression
scheme with your animation program will benefit all who use this server
by conserving disk space.
-------- end quotation from FAQ ------------------

IMO using DivX codec doesn't violate any of the above statements.
I certainly didn't want to annoy anyone here. Sorry if I did!
I think DivX gives the best quality/size ratio so I decided to convert to
my favorite video format...
What do the others say?

IMHO, Small MPG files provided with hyperlinks to alternate versions(if
any) in other sizes and codecs is much appreciated, and never
controversial.

I didn't investigated DivX license earlier but now I also wonder if publishing
on www through this news server is 'personal use' supposed to be free.

Does that (TMPGEnc) work for you ?
