Having some fun with this. Uses trace() for melting the block away.
Radiosity messed up this go of it but guess I can find better settings
later.
Just thought I'd get this little animation posted before I forget how to.
The scene objects are all simplistic; not much to the animating either,
#range used.

I've heard that phrase was originally used before Evil Dead III, but I never
knew where. Perhaps you will enlighten me Jamie? I've always wondered...
Hey Bob, that animation rocks! At first I thought the helicopter shadows
were hitting the UFO, but I guess those are reflections since the robot's
shadow is going the other way. What is that purple block, by the way? I like
the way the robot's eye-thing starts to glow right before he fires the laser
beam!

Yep, The Day the Earth Stood Still, thanks for showing that web page Jaime.
A old movie with both bad parts and good parts. Like a lot of movies that
you still might think are okay for whatever reasons.
Being B&W film you have to guess about what colors there might be. The block
is probably supposed to be totally transparent and colorless, I was just
trying for some interesting color mixes. It's something the Army placed the
robot in to hold it. Of course he escapes. If I were to make mine more like
the movie it would have to be more diffused.
Redone it since this one but no improvement in radiosity, a orange-yellow
used for the melting part and some variation as it drops.
