So, since eyes and face is finished now, I could make a little test how the
worm will look at objects. In this case, the head tends towards the
focalpoint, and the eyes pinpoint it. For later animations I'll make it
possible to vary the weighting of the focus-work.
Enjoy this curious little worm looking at a flying cone! :-)
Regards,
Tim

Wow, that's incredible. And incredibly hilarious! I must have watched
that animation loop about 100 times before looking away, and the
recursive idea of me looking at an animation of the worm looking at a
looping cone just made me laugh! HA!
But really good movement and structure, so far!

Thanks! If that short test is hilarious already, then I'll have to add some
looking around to the worm once I'm deciding on shots for the short he is
being modelled for. I agree, the motion comes out very nicely although its
actually very straight forward. I think it'll appear very realistic once I
weigh the motion different between eyes and head, and where he looks etc.

Tim

Thanks! For the actual worm, I intend to script some more features, like
eyepath-prediction: a moving object will be followed by eyes and head, but
if it suddenly stops, the worm will look a little ahead along the path its
little brain predicted, then notice its mistake and focus back on the
object. Creating the timing etc will be essential for that, but once that is
set, I think his "looking motion" will be quiet realistic.

That's really neat. It seems like it, but is each eye in fact
independently looking at the object? As in, if the object moves close to
his nose, he will look more cross-eyed, right?

Nice work - the animation looks very promising.
Have you seen http://10secondclub.org/ ? Click 'Latest Winners' to see some really
great character animation. I think
this may have been linked before a while ago in povray.off-topic.
One of the things that I notice most from here is that eyebrows are very expressive -
had you thought of adding these to
the worm (ok, they don't really have eyebrows, but they don't have eyes either...)

Thanks. Yes, you're right, each eye is independantly looking. I could have
him looking at it with parallel-viewing eyes, but you seldomly do that...

Thanks. Yes, I know of 10secondclub. I had thought about using eyebrows for
the worm, and I stuck to the idea of using his eyelids for that: making him
look angry, or weary, and such. But I did want to try how he would look with
actual eyebrows, though I'm unsure how to attach them to the worm. Once I've
experimented with it, I'll post a pic at binaries.images, k?

How about not attaching them to the worm? He is a cartoon like
character, so you can let them "fly around". Maybe it looks odd when
they throw shadows, so no_shadow can be applied.
Just my 2 eurocent.
