Aargh, where can I get a program to encode a DivX from stills? Divx.com
is no help, it just points me to programs that AFAIK re-encode existing
videos into DivX.

If they're BMP's, you can do it with VirtualDub
http://www.virtualdub.com

(Other still formats don't appear to be supported, although it can take
various types of movies for input as well)

'HOW' do you do it with VirtualDub? I'd like to know. Please share your knowledge on
the
subject.

I use VideoMach www.gromada.com. Will output in lots of formats, not just AVI

All the best,

I use VideoMach as well. Supports lots of input and output formats, easy to
use and very versatile.

Couldn't be easier. What I do is use Bink and Smacker
(http://www.radgametools.com/) to convert my POV-rendered PNG files to an
uncompressed AVI. Then I open that in VirtualDub
(http://www.virtualdub.org/). I apply any filters I might want, specify No
Audio, and then I set the compression settings. First, I pick "2-pass, first
pass", and apply some settings I'm happy with (http://www.doom9.org/). After
OKing everything, I save the file, making sure to defer processing for
later. This puts it in the job control list. Then I go back into the
compression settings and pick "2-pass, second pass". Save (deferred) again.
F4 for job control, hit Start, sit back and wait. When done, I delete the
original AVI and any stray files Divx left behind while encoding.

I hope that was clear. :) It has become quite routine for me.

Yes that's easy, but you can do it directly in Virtual Dub: Use the "logo"
filter to add a full screen BMP logo, select no transparancy, and select
"animation" with duration of 1 frame per BMP file.. Name the BMP files like
this:

name0000.bmp
name0001.bmp

etc.. The important thing is just to use 4 digits at the end of the name..
That's easy and you can output directly to Mpeg4.

Hugo

Thanks Hugo, that will save me having to generate uncompressed AVI first (although it
will
mean me rendering my images in bmp format, rather than space-saving png).

All the best,

Thanks Tony, but that's not what I was asking (see Hugo's post). I already perform the
uncompressed AVI using VideoMach, and it was that step that I was hoping to make
redundant.

However, your answer was interesting regarding using a second pass for DivX encoding.
I shall
have to give that a try.

All the best,

Andy Cocker

Yes, it will, but you can safely remove/disable it by following the link here:
