Made a short animation from the same scene I have posted to p.b.i.
If nothing else, we can see that radiosity (at least with these settings)
is not very good for animations. It changes too much from frame to frame...

Couldn't see it. How about an MPG-1?

Which decoder do I need? I have divx and many others but couldn't see it.
As concern radiosity in animation, ASAIK only Cinema 4d 7andsomethingelse
has an option which interpolates every radiosity solution from frame to
frame to better work in animations.

Do you have DivX 4? You can get it at http://www.divx.com/

I didn't use to think this but now I agree. This is not a forum about
experimental video compression. It's about the program that makes the
images, Povray, and how to animate objects in those images with that
program.
MPG-1 is pretty universal and if you want your animations to be seen, or
if you want to be polite to those who want to see your animations, you
should use it.

The situation has taken a full 180 degrees turn from what it was some
months ago... Back then it was me who resisted using DivX and wanted everyone
to use MPEG-1. Now it's the exact opposite... :)
I destroyed the original images so I can't build the MPEG from them. I also
have no idea how to convert an AVI to MPG (I can make the conversion in the
other direction); I don't have any program which supports Windows video
codecs as input and can output an MPG. Any suggestions?

here http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1 there's a program called avi2mpg which
should help you with one of those problems you mentioned, assuming you have
a Windows machine.

One of the most invaluable mpg tools I've come across. http://www.tmpgenc.com/
BTW, I do have DivX 3.11a, but 4 is a different beast and I think I'll wait for
it to get a little more mature before trying it out.
Personally, I think we should all just use Bink. But that's just me. :)

I like Bink too, but since it is not real common...
