The image map is 'UV_mapped' to the mesh of the cloth using MegaPOV.

I know, hence the title '...Membrane'. Still haven't quite got to grips with
how to control the stretchiness (and it's only after all the frames are
rendered that you can be sure how the cloth's gonna behave).

Me too.

I agree.

In what way? They are of course changing.. they follow a spline. I next want
to able to rotate them around the spline, but I couldn't face that this
time. I gues I'll need to use vrotate or vtransform or something. I'll do
that next.

That's a *bad* idea Tony.

You're welcome.

I dunno, I just wondered if they'd do what you made them do, move along. :)

You want to look at "elongation" and "shear". Make "elongation" small. Play
with "shear".

Hmmm... "elongation", yes, I agree, but "shear"? What about "strength"?

My one gripe is.."why so many options?" Surely elongation, shear and
strength could be combined into one option.

Because they are 3 totally different things. Shear is diagonal stretching.
Elongation is how much you want it to stretch beyond the "dist" you
establish. Strength controls stiffness or how easily the "springs" between
points bend.

Beautiful!

Maybe if you could make it make folds and drapes instead of stretching, it
would look more like cloth. I don't know how possible this is. This could
still be fine for t-shirt material...
