here is my (patched) version of twisting/deformation
during tracing this is still box
deformed but not tesselated
therefore it is not facated and has fast parsing
tracing time is not bad, too
20 secs per frame on my good old PII-233 :-)
I planned mix this animation with second twisting with axis perpendicular to
this one but I found bug and I send it after correction of sources.

This looks wonderfully organic, especially the final twist back to normal. I
don't pretend to understand what 'tesselated' means with regard to POV
though.. it's a little too advanced for me.

That is a very nice rendering time for this! Um, I was wondering: Is your
patch like a shortcut into isosurfaces or is it something different?

It is inspired by one kind of isosurfaces - isosurfaces using functions to
transform shape/ahother function, although I plan to support functions just like
isosurface can, but internally my deform patch use different method to achive
image shape. It is possible to treat it as shortcut to achive some shape
possible with isosurface but it works different.

Just got a look at this. 2 things caught my attention: no faceting and fast
rendering.
Well, make that 3 things... the animation of it was interesting too even if it
was only showing the effect.
Good luck with the bug squishing.
