pretty darn cool. too bad people that make tutorials don't make zip
files of them so we can download and view them off line. for this
reason i usually prefer the single loooooong page tutorials. oh well,
CHeggers can't be Boosers.

Okay, I'll accept that :-)
Not that I didn't believe you but I had to go looking again myself and the only thing
I saw with
that terms used was some odd engineering web pages about a "fusion" device of some
sort.
http://aries.ucsd.edu/PUBLIC/ARIES-RS/ENG-BOOK/diaphragm.html is the schematic of the
not quite
similar vanes used in a diaphragm not used in cameras obviously.

This is a more realistic version of the aperture iris diaphragm, with some
unreality added: a light ball flies through it. Still a tiny animation
(resolution and file size both).

This is wonderful and instructive: you are fast in making such small
gems!

Hey, thanks. As you probably know it's the render times which slow most
people up, including me.
I had this latest one done the next day after the others, I hesitated to
upload yet another. Just tweaked a little more on the CSG positions,
texture change, addition of a media sphere. Nothing to it. The real trick
is what to do with it now :-)
Maybe Micha Riser is still scavenging the p.t.s-f. group for inclusions to
the POV-Ray Object Collection.

Not me - I have no shame. This one uses shark fin-shaped blades. It's not as
sophisticated as Bob's, and it doesn't look quite as smooth, but at least I
got the infernal thing to work! (Rsibbald was right, although the best pivot
point seems to be a little further to the right...)

This has been improved since the animation render, but not much - just a
little better 3D effect.

Neat-o. Should have posted it out by itself starting a new thread. That
mid-ring's stillness is extremely noticeable with the inner and outer parts
moving like that. I like the mirrored interior contrasting with the worn
exterior, just a bit empty as it is now though.

Thanks! New version's a-renderin' as we speak - new features include an
eerie green glow (dim on the outside, bright inside), and a gold undulator
inside.

Cool!

One thing I noted though; the texture of the iris does not follow the
movements of the iris. You need to texture each individual part, and place
the texture statement before the transformations. I think it could benefit
from that. Look forward to see next version!

Greetings,

Rune

I noticed the texture problem too, but not until the render was half done,
but it's corrected now.

I just noticed the IRTC animation topic (I don't usually pay much attention
to it since I'm an amateur), but I can't pass this one up!
