I downloaded Megapov this week and played with it a bit... mmmh... yum!
What you see is the camera rotating around a perfectly static and still
media - emitting media using method 3 and function defined density.
(I was trying to do a flame but got carried away.)
Megapov is truly fantastic, if a bit overwhelming. I was pleasantly
surprised to see
how smooth it was to install and use. Many, many thanks to Nathan and all
the others.
Technical stuff:
Megapov 0.3
150 frames, 200x200pi, Intel video 5.04 codec, avi-ed with FMP (Fast Movie
Processor - freeware for non commercial use, see Ken's links)
This is the reduced version of a 900 frames 500x500pi avi - render time 9~10
hours with antialias on a PII 233MHz running Win98SE

I couldn't play it, QuickTime Player said it didn't have the right
compressor.

It looks weird. With the soft edge it's a bit like those psychedelic
projections from the 60s/70s. Is this good acid or bad acid?

Well, this is harder then I thought it would be. Right now I only achieved
to inflate the size 6+ times AND quality deterioration. I used avi2mpg1
v1.8. I guess the quality loss comes mainly from the double compression
(Intel indeo + mpg). I'll try it again with my bigger original 20MB version
of the avi.
I still have to look into the diverse options. and/or try other softwares (I
also downloaded cmpeg v1.0 and, mpeg2enc v1.1 ).
Any advice?

I don't mind CMpeg at all for the size of animations it can make, plus it seems
to be playable most anywhere. Have to go with something else for the "over
512X320 res." frames though. Just get Sander's Cmpeg4 front-end (Win) and it's
a snap to use too: http://stols.net/
Be aware that I think he's got it defaulted to do the slow encoding method which
only saves a tiny bit on file size.
