I've changed my macros so that the electricity can follow any path, and so
that the color along it can also be fully controlled by the user.
I made some slightly silly examples in the attached animation because I
couldn't think of any practical uses for it. Oh well...
Comments appreciated!
By the way, do anybody know what the name is for those electric beam
thingies? Lightning? Electric sparks? ... ?

Silly examples are fine, POV-ray renders what you ask, its not
constrained to the real world. This all started with electronic doodle
which was an exercise in creating a pretty animation, not an exercise
in practicality :-)

I dunno. Oh, right, we are not talking about reality, we're just making up
things...
Ok, even before the fly comes close the sparks strikes it immediately, a
blinding flash appears, and the fly falls to the ground. Har har har...! ;)

The fogginess bothers me, can that be trimmed back any? You see most
artificially produced electric arcings without such glows to the air around
them. I didn't say so before because it looked good the first time around.

Electric beams? Hmmm. Unsure of what you're asking. I was trying to think
of the name for a device it reminded me of after I saw the More Electricity
animation. It's got two stiff wires or metal rods that are closer together
at the bottom than the top. The electricity traverses upward off the top
and begins again at the bottom, cycling through that way. Tried to look it
up and failed.

I meant the electric beams in the animations. Do they have a more correct
term that just "electric beam"? I mean, what term would you use if you
wanted people to know what you're talking about? I noticed you used the term
"electric arcing" - is that it? I'm just wondering. English is not my native
tongue.

Btw - you know i mentioned vertical banding - well i think it was caused by
my second vid card + your avi compression codec.
I have a duel head system, and was running your vid on the second monitor,
thats plugged into a crumbly ati rage pro...
