This does not happens always, just half of the time or so... and of course
POV-Ray runs fine when using -D :
[...]
Render Options
Quality: 9
Bounding boxes.......On Bounding threshold: 3
Antialiasing.........Off
XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":0.0"
after 32 requests (29 known processed) with 1 events remaining.
I cannot find anything on the internet about the cause and/or solution...
just people having this problem as far as 2003 with several
distributions/applications.
Regards,

hey, Jaime! Do you also get a transparent preview window on Ubuntu? It's
almost impossible to see anything. I just turn it off and get previews from
the file manager. Unfortunately, I can't get previews of radiosity during the
pretrace stage that way...

Do you happen to use a compositing window manager a la Beryl?
The display preview hasn't be tested in this environment yet.

Yes, I got it sometimes too... Another X11-related error might happen as well
(Xsync problem IIRC) and sadly requires to SIGKILL (kill -9) the process. As long as
we'll be using the SDL library for preview display there won't be much to do about it
unfortunately.

yes. It's becoming pretty common and Ubuntu 7.10 readily recognized my nvidia
and offered to download and install the nvidia driver and get ahead with wheezy
graphics effects...

How about not using the SDL library? 3.6 didn't need it.

oh! Only now I saw you guys are talking about 3.7 beta.
well, it works the same with 3.6, warp. That was what I was complaining... so,
it isn't the SDL lib, I guess... can it be related to png transparency?

No, I don't have the transparency problem because I use WIndowMaker, but
still it shows garbage instead. The "solution" was posted some weeks ago (I
don't remember who was the poster), and it is to use the visual option to
select a different color mode:
povray ... -visual DirectColor
DirectColor works for me, but YMMV...

oh. I used to use WindowMaker in my early Linux years. Then I got bored and
decided to get more of a 2000's feel and hog resources with Gnome.

this is a great tip, thanks...
it's not like I can't simply shut down Compiz, though...
