a console app ceases to be a console app when it cannot be run in a console
only environment

Then there's no such thing as a console app under NT, since there's no such
thing as a "console only environment" in NT. This is clearly not a usable
definition.

The truth is, there's a specific definition of what constitutes a "console mode
app" in Windows, and it is absolutely true that an app can meet that definition
and still create windows and draw to the screen. Most don't, but there's no
reason they couldn't if they wanted to.

Of course nobody's asserting that. Equally of course, that won't stop you
from making an ass out of yourself trying to show how horrible everyone
associated with the production of POV-Ray is just because you're not allowed
to use the code for whatever you want.

I know that's what Povlegal says. I'm merely wondering why Warp expressed
an opinion that a Win32 console port would be illegal.

I may be suffering of early dementia, as I have absolutely no memory about
saying anything like that.

You're right, rendrib (BMRT) does it too (and it's obviously a console app).

Well, everything's ok then. I just had to mention it sa most people
don't care to read the document as thoroughly as needed.

Ahem... Ron, was that called for? Maybe I missed the small text
somewhere.

What you missed is that this luser has been bashing the POV-Team over in CGRR
for at least five years, by my count. He's a petty little whiner and nothing
more.

As the originator of this thread, I just want to say:

The POV Team Rules. You guys have given us a great product, fantastic
support,
and created a wonderful community. Thanks!!!

Reading this thread has raised one more question in my mind. Is POV-Ray 3.5
not
going to have an "Official" console mode version for the M$ platforms?

Just curious
Tom
