Let's show what POV-Ray can really do.
There was quite a bit of discussion in the pre-beta round about forming
a group to address this issue after the final release. What was proposed
was a collection of scenes and utilities that would enhance the scene
files collection and updates to the documentation without increasing
the burden on the download of the main distirbution of the package.
There is a very good possibility that this will still happen and when
ready will be hosted at povray.org or on the TAG homepage. Kind of a
post release resource center with offical sponsorship.

I'd also like to see a 'basic scene' in the insert menu that looks more
realistic. For instance a desert scene with just the ground and sky. IMHO...

I have some half-decent artistic (rather than photorealistic) scenes which
will render easily on 300-500Mhz class hardware. I would be willing to
offer a few for use in the distribution.
A small sample of my work is available at
http://www3.sympatico.ca/gcircle/csbh/gallery.html. I also have 300 more
scenes offline.
These aren't IRTC-grade synthetic photographs, but then again they aren't
supposed to be.
