I'm working on a scene for which I need a few rocks.
I know I've seen the kind of thing I want in various places, but no
source...
I've tried using Height Fields and can't seem to get the effect I'm looking
for. What I'd like to end up with is a few granite-like boulders poking up
through the ground
I'm thinking isosurfaces would do wonderfully, but have no idea where to
start.
Anybody willing to throw some ideas my way?
Scott

John VanSickl (sp?) had a usefull rock.inc available coupla years ago.
Used triangle, smooth and rough types. I can't find his web page right
now but guess others may know it.

I've dug into my archive and found John's files, and also POVROCK.EXE
from unknown author. Both for 3.1 and will write a mesh(.inc). I can
email them if you wish.

.. no ...
You better browse through some IRTC-Galleries, as there are several
images in, probably fitting your issue... Also the Splash-Screen of
POV3.5B is there somewhere ... And the most of these pictures were
done in POV, so there is a good description, and probably some code

I've been rendering ALL of the samples. (good thing my machine stays on
24/7) I've found one starting point in IsoCacti.pov that looks promising.
Continuing to hunt...
I've also been hunting through the IRTC entries. Have yet to find a
suitable example that includes source.
Any idea WHERE the source for the splash screen is?

This is defeinitely looking like it has some promise...
I get one error: there's an include file, "dof.inc" that seems to be
missing. commenting it out makes the render run, but I'm rather curious
what it is...

Sorry, that line must have been commented out...

That's an include file for "easy focal blur" by Wozzeck (François
Dispot, www.wozzeck.net). Anyhow, it was not used on the final version,
but I played with it *before* zipping for submission... :(

Hehehe...
You should see how many "commented" experimental lines tend to be left over
in my code...
