I'm trying to use Bob Hughes' "Small Flame" (p.t.s-f) but when I add scale 20
it becomes black and green. Do I have to change some media settings as well?

Media is dependant on actual distance, so when you scale it up, it gets
thicker. You need to decrease the density by the same amount you
increase the scale, in your case, divide the density by 20.
