Hello:

I'm trying to raytrace an image of Steve Jackon's "Ogre", including all
the myriad tank treads. I'm trying to figure out the best way to
(programatically) build these tank treads.

Basically, it's sort of like Rob Antonishen's chain generator,
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/7865/, but with bogey's and wheels. I figure
I could probably get by with fiting a tank tread to a path as well. I'd
like to be able to make this programatic so that it could be animated. I'd
guess that actually animating a tank's suspension moving over terrain would
be very difficult, but it's tempting.

Nice, shiny steel robot treads moving up some stairs would be a very
impressive effect as well; I'd think this could be a usefull utility. I'd
use some bump maps but modeling individual treads would be usefull for
animation and side shots.

Any suggestions? (I've got a bad feeling I'd have to write a program to
do this <G>)

Hi John! Have a look at Chris Colefax's spline and chain include files.
They might just be the kind of files you've been looking for:

I hope to see your pic at p.b.i!
