The image shows 2 fewer hues than the dispersion_samples value.

The first image shows the setup I used for testing.  The wall near the  
camera casts a shadow on the screen for contrast.

The second image is the actual test.  The numbers 3 through 10 are the  
values of dispersion_samples for the pair of prisms above each.  The  
prisms in the top row cast a narrow slit of photons onto the screen right  
below the numbers.  The prisms in the lower row refract the white line  
near the bottom.

I'm using version 3.6.2 (32-bit), but I've noticed the problem in earlier  
versions.  My OS is Windows XP 2002 Media Center Edition SP3.
