Hi,

up to now I use Moray 3.3.
How can I import *.obj into Moray?

I know there is 3DWin, but I cant't figure out how to handle it with Moray.

Could someone explain this for a dummy?

Thanks a lot,

Well, in V3.5 you need to use something like 3DWin. But it hasn't been
released for Moray V3.5 (not too long to go, though).

I use Poseray (freeware) http://user.txcyber.com/~sgalls/
It takes an .obj file and exports it to mesh or mesh2 creating
a .pov, .inc and mat-inc.files and an UDO object if you wish.
Then you only have to open the udo in Moray.
If you want to change the texture open the xxxx-mat.inc
file in pov and edit the texture declaration.

Other things poseray does:

If your .obj file has UV coordinates, they are saved when the
.obj is exported to pov.
(If your .obj file hasn't UV coordinates, and you want them,
get UVMapper at http://www.uvmapper.com
and create them before using Poseray).
You can deform the .obj geometry using a displacement map.
You have a complete preview of your object and its textures
using OpenGL.

Hope this helps

I'll try that.

Is the output the enhanced UDO with facets?

Does it mean I cannot use the Moray material editor anymore?

Yes, it does.

You can choose between the UDO object as a box or the UDO object
as detailed as your original object (with facets).

The .inc file contains the geometry and UV data.
The mat.inc file contains the textures declarations for the
UV data.
The UDO file points to the .inc file.
So you cannot modify the mat.inc file from material editor.
(you can always create your textures in Moray and cut and
paste 'em in the mat.inc file)

Yes. The alternate route will be the 3DWin plugin. It will create
textures from the *.obj file in Moray's Material Editor and will
create a mesh.

Hi Txemi,

I gave Poseray a try now.

That's ok.

That's too much effort.
I do not want to use more than one program for texturing.

Thanks for your info,

Sounds not too bad, but I have to buy two programs to come to the desired
result.

I think Moray should have the ability to import the most common formats
instrinsic.

What do you think?

Other question:
I would like to have detailed info about the new UDO format to talk to
McNeel.
Where can I get this?

I just updated the website with it. The specification that is online
contains the information. Its a simple change to McNeel, all they need
to do is add a [Faces] section. They can contact me if needed.

The McNeels say it isn't too hard to export the new UDO format.
As you might know their new release is in progress too, and they hope to
have it included there.
