Request or is it already in there somewhere? (Message 1 to 9 of 9)

Hey is there a way to type in Pov code into Moray, and have it interpret it
to become an object or scene? Moray uses MDL files, and it wont seem to let
me import .inc files or pov files. Am I right or wrong here?

It lets import .inc files, just go to the global settings box.

sort of import inc files. it lets you use inc files, but won't make
wireframes for any of your objects. so you just have to make sure
things in your inc file are where you want them. i could be wrong, but
this is how i think it works.

No, Moray has no scripting language capabilities.

The only way to convert pov to mdl is to usde the now defunct pov2mdl, it
converts a sub set of povray 2.2, so if your handy with povray code you
should be able to get most of there scene geometry worked out. there are
differences between povray 3 & 2, and you will have to doctor the povray3
file by hand.

dont ask me what exactly the differences are, as i dont know, i gave up
trying to get povray code into moray a long time ago!

You are right.

If you have an INC file with POV script for an object in it, you could
create an UDO file that will allow you to use that object in the
scene. You would need to create the UDO file from scratch, though. The
specification for the UDO file format is available from the Moray
website.

and a udo only has to be an approximation of the actual inc object,
right? so if one made an isosurface planet, a udo of a sphere would
suffice.

Yes. You can define anything in a UDO. It doesn't need to have
anything to do with the actual thing that POV-Ray will render.

Hmm, speaking of which, I've noticed a bug. When I create a UDO that I
built by hand (I don't know if this is a problem with machine generated
UDOs), the *first* one (which I create using the toolbar) is fine. When I
copy it, the vectors between points get munged, connecting the wrong points.
It renders fine, of course, so this hasn't been a big problem (actually been
helpful, since the munged udo are easier to work around without changing the
screen detail level). Is there someone who can look at my .udo file and
tell me what's wrong with it, or if the problem is in Moray?

Geoff
